Chichen Itza is located in the eastern part of the state of Yucatan, Mexico. It is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico with more than a million visitors a year. The name means “at the mouth of the well of Itza.” It was one of the largest of the ancient Mayan cities. Its ruins are maintained by Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History. El Castillo Pyramid dominates the site but there are hundreds of stone buildings and causeways to explore including the Temple of Warriors with its beautiful columns.
